Midland College softball coach Tommy Ramos garnered his 600th career win on Saturday, February 4, 2012 in a 9-0 victory over Cisco Junior College (TX). Ramos who is in his 14th year as head coach of the Lady Chap's, started the program and is the only head coach the program has ever known. Thanks to Midland College athletic director Forrest Allen for this report

Ramos' career record currently sits at 604-184-3 (.764) and includes leading the Midland College softball team to nine Western Junior College Athletic Conference championships, eleven NJCAA Region V Tournament appearances, four NJCAA Region V championships and four appearances in the NJCAA Division I Fastpitch National Championship Tournament.

Coach Ramos has been named WJCAC Coach of the Year six times and has been named NJCAA Region V or Region V West Coach of the Year on four occasions. He has coached the NJCAA Region V and/or NJCAA Region V West All-Star team five times and was tabbed in 2008 to coach the Texas All-Stars in an exhibition game against the USA Olympic Softball team. That game was played in Midland (TX) at Citibank Ballpark, home of the Midland Rockhounds (Class AA Affiliate of the Oakland A's).

On Thursday, February 16th one of Coach Ramos' long time ambitions came to fruition when Midland College opened play on their new on-campus softball facility. The dedication was the culmination of several years of planning, construction and delays due to the severe drought-related, watering restrictions throughout Texas as well as anticipated budget cuts in the two most recent state appropriations (school funding).

Midland College was assisted in opening the facility by Coastal Bend College who agreed, on very short notice, to come in to play the first-ever games at the facility. What was originally scheduled as a double-header, was limited to only one game due to freezing drizzle, rainy and cold conditions. MC won the game 10-8 in front of a tremendous group of supporters.

Congratulations to Midland College softball head coach Tommy Ramos on his 600th career coaching victory.
