South Plains came out a bit flat in their 2012 season finale, allowing the Broncos to hang around the entire first half.
With the score tied up at 13 apiece, Marshall Henderson
nailed his second 3-point goal to help the Texans begin a 10-2 run that appeared might open the game up. New Mexico Military did not let the Texans move beyond their eight point lead and late in the first half went on a run themselves that eventually helped them pull to within a single point by halftime.
The Texans exerted their dominance early and often in the second half.
Back-to-back buckets by Tymell Murphy
began a 15-2 Texan run that the Texans never looked back from as the Broncos only crept back to within single digits three times for the remainder of the game.
The final time New Mexico Military decreased their deficit to nine points the Texans answered with two field goals by Kidd, a make on a drive by Corey Spence
, and a three-point play by Yanick Moreira
to give South Plains their largest lead of the game at 18 points.
New Mexico Military would get no closer than 13 for the remainder of the game.
Coming up just one rebound shy of a double-double in the Texans last game versus Western Texas, Murphy finished Thursday night's game with 12 points and 14 rebounds. Moreira also had a double-double pouring in 13 points and grabbing 13 boards.
Henderson finished the game with 11 points.
The Texans will enter the Region 5 tournament as the No. 1 seed from the WJCAC and will face NTJCAC No. 4 seed Temple College in the first round on Thursday, March 8. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at the Rip Griffin Center on the campus of Lubbock Christian University.
