(LUBBOCK) - The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and Lubbock Sports will host around 90 athletes from junior colleges across Texas and New Mexico for the 2012 Region V West Volleyball Championships beginning Wednesday, Oct. 31 and running through Thursday, Nov. 1.

The matches will be held at Lubbock Christian University with the awards ceremony on Thursday immediately after the championship match is played on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 4 p.m. This tournament determines which team will represent Region V at the NJCAA National Volleyball Championships in West Plains, Miss., Thursday, Nov. 15 through Saturday, Nov. 17.

"The success we have enjoyed partnering with Lubbock Sports made for an easy decision on where to go with this event," said John Green, NJCAA director of Region V. "This tournament will showcase many collegiate volleyball players working to take the next step to major, four-year programs. If you want to see the volleyball superstars of tomorrow, make plans to attend."

Lubbock Sports estimates the total economic impact of the tournament will be more than $77,000 for the Lubbock community.
