EL PASO - The South Plains College Lady Texan and El Paso Tejano cross country teams proved why they are the fourth- and seventh ranked teams in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and why they are potential contenders for next month's NJCAA championships when they both cruised to the team titles at the Region 5 cross country championships Saturday morning at the Rio Grande Valley Horse Ranch.

All five scoring runners finished inside the top 10 and the SPC women were once again led by sophomore Darroneshia Lott.
The SPC women scored 27 points to win the women's team event and were led by Darroneshia Lott who won the individual championship by nearly a minute.

In the men's race, El Paso completely dominated by placing all seven of their runners in the top 11 and sweeping the top five to finish with a perfect score of 15 points led by Jose Esqueda with a time of 26 minutes, 14 seconds.

Next up are the NJCAA Championships in Ina, Ill. on Nov. 10 and then the NJCAA Half Marathon Championships hosted by South Plains College in Levelland on Nov. 17.
