(Vernon, Texas) The Lady Bears of #1 ranked division three Brookhaven College competed in the Vernon College Invitational this past weekend and came out claiming a share of the tournament championship. This is now the second tournament that Brookhaven has went undefeated, improving their record to 8-1 on the season.

On Friday, Brookhaven played division one Clarendon College and defeated the Lady Bulldogs 3-0. They then played division one North Central Texas College and outlasted them for a 3-2 victory.

On Saturday, Brookhaven squared off with division one Western Texas College for the second time of the season and ended with similar results, defeating the Westerners 3-1. The second match of the day was against division two Hesston College where the Bears swept the Lady Larks 3-0 to claim a share of the tournament championship with host school Vernon College.

Coach Jason Hopkins:

"The team played pretty consistent this weekend. It's never easy to win on the road, but we played like we were right at home. I've seen a lot of improvement this weekend and that's what our goal was."

"I'm very pleased with our sophmore captains. They've done an excellent job of keeping everyone on task and leading by example. They really are the building blocks of this team and it showed on the court this weekend."

Brookhaven returns to action Tuesday when they will travel to Tyler, TX to take on division one #22 Tyler Junior College at 6:00 PM at the Wagstaff Gymnasium.
