South Plains College, in conjunction with Texas Tech University and Lubbock Sports, are set to host future National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) events.
In March of 2011 and 2013 the NJCAA men's and women's indoor track and field meet will return to Texas Tech's athletic training center. The meet has previously been held on the Texas Tech campus in 2007 and 2009. The South Plains College Texans were crowned as champions in both years, while the Lady Texans won the team championship in 2009 and were runners-up in 2007.
Also coming to the South Plains in May of 2013 is the division I men's golf tournament, which will be contested at the Texas Tech Rawls course.
It has also been recently announced that South Plains College Athletics Director, Joe Tubb, has been elected to serve as the NJCAA 1st Vice-President for men. Tubb has a long history of serving in leadership roles within the NJCAA which includes a stint as Region 5 director from 1999-2009.
