The South Plains College Texan basketball team will enter the 2014-15 basketball season as the favorites within the conference, as indicated by the recent Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC) coach's poll.

The Frank Phillips College Women's Basketball Team was recognized as an NJCAA All-Academic Team for 2013-14 compiling a 3.53 team grade point average. The Lady Plainsmen had the third highest team GPA among NJCAA Women's Basketball Teams with Miles Community College earning a 3.59 GPA and Snow College finishing with a 3.57. Williston State College also registered a 3.53 and Western Wyoming Community College rounded out the top five with a 3.52.

The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) has announced the finalists for the 2014 WBCA Junior/Community College Player of the Year award, and Weatherford College's Itiana Taylor is one of three finalists for the prestigious honor.
The WBCA presents the Player of the Year award annually to the top player in each of the six WBCA membership divisions (NCAA Divisions I, II, III, NAIA, junior/community college and high school).
The NJCAA National Basketball Tournaments will be well represented by teams from Region 5 when competition begins March 17 as three schools will be competing in Kansas.
