ODESSA, Texas - Odessa College athletic director Wayne Baker recently announced the addition of volleyball to the Lady Wrangler athletic program to begin in fall 2011.  This was approved by the Board of Regents on Monday evening, January 25. 

"We are thrilled to have another WJCAC team participate in the sport of volleyball.  This will bring the total number of teams to six," said WJCAC commissioner John Green. 

Teams currently participating in volleyball are Clarendon College, Frank Phillips College, Midland College, New Mexico Military Institute, and Western Texas College.

Jason Hopkins has continued to build a dynasty with the Brookhaven College volleyball team. Hopkins led the team to a perfect record in division play throughout the year, clinching the Metro Athletic Conference Championship and an overall record of 29-10. Hopkins guided the Lady Bears to their second straight national championship, which is their fourth NJCAA Division III title in the past six years. Hopkins was also named the NJCAA Division III Coach of the Year while producing the NJCAA Division III MVP along with two Division III All-Tournament Team selections. This is the first time Hopkins has been named the AVCA Two-Year College Southwest Region Coach of the Year.

Additionally, Sarah Terry was named to the first team NJCAA All-American team.

The Lady Plainsmen Volleyball Team sealed the deal with a come from behind victory to #11 New Mexico Military Institute 22-25, 22-25, 26-24, 25-22, 15-11 to lock up their 8th Region V Championship in 9 years. The team awaits seeding and will depart on Nov 16th for Council Bluffs,Iowa to join the best of the best for the National Title. Congrats to Coach Allen, Coach Trimble and the FPC Volleyball Team.

The FPC volleyball team enters as the number 10 seed and will play seventh seeded San Jacinto College at 11 a.m. on Thursday.

It seems that Coach Jason Hopkins is building a dynasty with the Brookhaven College Lady Bears Volleyball Team. Over the weekend, team members won their second straight national championship, their fourth title in the past six years in the National Junior College Athletics Association Division III. The 2009 NJCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament was Nov. 13-14 at the University Center Rochester Sports Center in Rochester, Minn.
