Five Region 5 baseball players were named to NJCAA all-American teams recently, led by Edwin Arroyo (Clarendon), John Rosecrans (Grayson), and Collin Reynolds (McLennan) who were all named to the second team.  Joe Leftridge earned third team status, while his teammate, Burch Smith, was named to the honorable mention team.

Arroyo, added the Rawling's 'Big Stick' award after finishing the season with a batting average of .480.  The award goes to the top hitter in each district.

On top of being an all-American, Leftridge was also honored as a member of the Rawlings Gold Glove team for his efforts in center field.

Region V Director John Green announces an agreement with Panhandle Sports Broadcasting Live to video stream all games of the 2010 Region V Baseball Tournament held at Ft Worth Texas May 16-20 at Ft. Worth Cat"s LaGrave Field and hosted by the Fort worth Visitors and Convention Bureau.

"This partnership will allow the basketball programs from the WJCAC and NTJCAC advancing to the tournament to showcase their basketball talents for anyone in the world to see. Anybody, anywhere will have the ability to watch the players from the best region in the NJCAA," said Green.

Defending NJCAA baseball champions, Howard College, enters the 2010 baseball season ranked fourth in the initial National Junior College Athletic Conference poll recently released.  The Hawks set a national record last season with a 57 game winning streak and finished with a record of 63 wins and only 1 loss.

The Hawks will begin their season today in San Antonio with a double-header versus Wharton Junior College.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - The Howard College (Texas) baseball team capped off an unbelievable season Friday, May 29, by accomplishing their top goal of the year - winning a national championship. The Hawks, which garnered national headlines this baseball season with a record-setting 57 game winning streak, won their 63rd game of the season by defeating Santa Fe Community College (Fla.) 5-4 in 10 innings in the title game of the 2009 NJCAA Division I JUCO World Series in Grand Junction.
