NEWTON, KAN. Vetle Maroy's second-place individual performance paved the way for Odessa College's team title in the NJCAA Fall National Preview at Sand Creek Station Golf Course.

Played Monday and Tuesday, the Wranglers carded a three-round 906 total, which was four strokes better than runner-up Iowa Western.

RUIDOSO, N.M. Odessa College shot a program best in a 54-hole tournament, finishing with a 40-under-par 824 to win the High Country Shootout, which concluded Monday at Links at Sierra Blanca.

The McLennan Highlanders shot 281-277 − 558 to claim first place of the Paris Fall Invitational at the Paris Country Club.

Paris finished in second place with 569, followed by Tyler in third with 576.

Cory Donnell shot 69-70 − 139 to lead the Highlanders and finished tied for the individual title with Tyler Dunbar of Paris, 69-70 − 139. Dunbar won the playoff to claim the individual title, moving Donnell to second.

Three former and one current McLennan Community College golfers are competing in tournaments on the national level this summer.

Former golfers Jerry Smith and Steen Tinning are competing in the U.S. Senior Open at Oak Tree National in Edmond, Oklahoma, this week. Smith led the Highlanders to the school's first NJCAA National Championship in 1984, placing first individually to earn NJCAA All-American while playing for McLennan. Tinning won three tournaments as a member of the Highlander squad in 1981.

The Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC) recently announced their All-Conference Golf team for the 2014 season.  Odessa College claimed the conference championship while Wrangler coach Paul Chavez picked up Coach of the Year honors.  Top medalist was David Wicks of Midland College.

Teams will travel to Burlington, Iowa, where they will compete for the NJCAA Championship May 11-16.
