Bob McKinley hit a major coaching milestone Saturday afternoon. Weatherford College's athletic director and basketball coach picked up win number 800 as the Lady Coyotes and Coyotes swept Temple College. McKinley has coached at WC since 1977, winning 11 conference championships, earning three national tournament berths and winning Conference Coach of the Year honors eight times. The Coyote Basketball Booster Club presented McKinley with a special "800" jersey, donated by Carey's Sporting Goods.

Thanks to Midland College athletic director Forrest Allen for this report

Congratulations to MC women's basketball coach Ron Jones who recorded his 500th collegiate coaching victory in a 65-60 contest with the New Mexico Junior College Lady T-Birds back on December 1, 2011. The game was played in Hobbs, NM during the 2011 WJCAC Preconference Tournament.

Jones, who began his college coaching career at Western Texas College in Snyder, opened this season with a 491-138 record. The 2011-12 season marks his 20th as a college coach (two seasons at Western Texas College and 18 at Midland College).

Something had to give. The scoreboard had become like the old truck that you loved all your life, but it only worked on certain schedules, never at the most critical times. Thirty seasons had come and gone and the original scoreboard at the Odessa College Sports Center was literally functioning on one leg. Replacement parts were difficult, if not impossible to find and repair was constantly required.

In the first of three possible events, the MC basketball team showed their support for blindness prevention and the defeat of diseases that contribute to the loss of sight for Texans. The Chaparrals and Prevent Blindness Texas joined forces to help increase awareness of eye diseases, eye safety and chronic diseases that can rob people of their vision.

HATTIESBURG, Miss.
- Southern Miss announced Monday the addition of Ross Hodge to an assistant basketball coach position pending the approval by the Board of Trustees of the Institute of Higher Learning.

Hodge will take over for Greg Heiar, who accepted the same position at Wichita State.

"In all my years of coaching, I haven't met anyone his age who is so far along in this profession," said head coach Larry Eustachy. "He has an excellent relationship with players and alumni. He is advanced in all areas, from coaching, to relating to players, to teaching, and he has proven it by taking his teams to the NJCAA tournament and the national championship game."
