McLennen, Grayson grab regional wins
The No. 10 McLennan Highlanders corralled the No. 25 Odessa Wranglers 11-1 in five innings in today's Regional Series opener. Griffin Lewis picked up the win on the mound.
The Highlanders broke the game open in the top of the second inning. With two outs on recorded., Brock Lulewicz drew a walk. Ramon Corona tripled, scoring Lulewicz, and Bryce Hampton reached on an error to score Corona. Sam Jenkins followed with a two-run homer. Brennon Seigler singled, and Brody Chyr came up with a two-run homer of his own.
McLennan added five more runs in the fourth. Hampton and Jenkins both singled. Hampton then scored on a sacrifice fly by Seigler. Cooper McEnroe tripled to score Jenkins. Tyler Ness and Brady Quinn followed with back-to-back home runs.
Odessa's only run came in the bottom of the fifth. Paxton Samuelson reached on an error to lead off the inning, and Alejandro Rivera doubled to score Samuelson.
Game two of the three-game series is set for 1 p.m. Friday in Odessa.
Grayson defeated Howard College, 7-3, to open their postseason run. Game 2 is scheduked fortomorrow (Friday, May 8) at 1 p.m.
