Coyotes take opener against NMMI
It was a great day for baseball at Roger Williams Ballpark as the No. 20 Weatherford College baseball team defeated New Mexico Military Institute 5-1, taking the lead in the best of 3-game postseason series.
The Coyotes now have a 38-18 overall record, having won 13 of their last 14 games.
Jack Cagianello won the day for the Coyotes, pitching 7 and 2/3 innings. He struck out three and walked two. He allowed only one run on two hits.
Alex D'Angelo finished the day on the bump, striking out two.
A triple from Ty Waid, followed by an RBI single from Walt Jones, helped the black and gold to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second.
Waid's next at bat was a towering 453ft home run to left field, leaving the ballpark at 117mph.
Fielding errors from the Broncos resulted in advancing runners for WC in the fourth and fifth innings.
The Coyotes look to take the win Friday at 1 p.m. at Williams Ballpark.
