Nickel Wins Third Straight Coach of Year Award
Dallas College Eastfield's Phil Nickel was named the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Volleyball Coach of the Year.
It is the third straight year Nickel has claimed the honor.
"Coach Nickel has had a great impact on Dallas College Eastfield Volleyball," Eastfield Athletic Director Anthony Fletcher said. "He is a true professional collegiate coach that does a tremendous job with his craft. He is a great leader and volleyball coach."
Nickel guided Eastfield to a third straight national championship, capping off a 31-1 season. His teams have gone 100-2 over the last three years, which includes a 53-0 mark against NJCAA Division III schools. His teams are 39-2 against NJCAA Division I and II opponents during that time.
"Coach Nickel led the team through a truly outstanding season, showing both skill and dedication," sophomore outside hitter Mia Santos said. "His commitment and guidance not only achieved results, but created lifetime memories and milestones. Coach Nickel gave me an opportunity when I needed one most. I will be forever grateful."
Eastfield won 28 straight matches to end the season, and had 26 sweeps this year.
"I had a great experience with Coach Nickel," freshman outside hitter Madison Mosley said. "I learned a lot, and the coaching style that Coach Nickel brought is really (one) I feel I thrive in. I genuinely enjoyed the season."
