Men's Basketball Player of the Week (Jan. 8-14)

Region V has announced the Men's Basketball Players of the Week for the week of Jan. 8-14.

The North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference Player of the Week is Derrick Farquharson of McLennan Community College. The 6-5 sophomore guard from Charlotte, NC scored 17 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to record a double-double in the Highlanders' 123-56 win over Concordia University JV. He also scored 15 points in the Highlanders' 79-56 win over Ranger College. For the week, he was 13 of 19 from the field and 5 of 6 from the free throw line.

The Western Junior College Athletic Player of the Week is Jachai Simmons of Midland College. The 6-7 sophomore forward from Plainfield, NJ scored 62 points in the Chaps' three games last week. He also had 13 rebounds and 6 steals. He was 10 of 19 on 3-point attempts and 24 of 47 from the field.

The Metro Athletic Conference Player of the Week is J.F. Thomas Jr., of Cedar Valley College. In two games last week, the 6-5 freshman forward scored 41 points, had 61 rebounds, 8 assists, 8 steals and 4 blocked shots.
